our training Philosophy
Serious Training, Applied Intelligently. Built for the Long Game.
At Lougars Performance, training is purposeful, demanding, and designed to support long-term physical capability. Our coaching philosophy is rooted in high-intensity strength training applied with discipline, precision, and respect for recovery.
We focus on doing the essentials exceptionally well: intelligent load progression, sound technique, and effort applied with intent. Every training decision is made to improve performance while minimising unnecessary breakdown, allowing athletes to progress consistently over time.
This is a structured training philosophy for people who take their health, strength, and long-term capability seriously, whether they compete or simply expect more from their training over decades, not just seasons.
What Sets Us Apart
We don’t chase trends or build systems around hype. Lougars Performance coaching is grounded in high-intensity, intent-driven training refined through decades of real-world coaching and lived experience.
Our approach is defined by clear principles:
Doing less, better, with purpose
Applying intensity intelligently, not recklessly
Building strength, resilience, and performance that last
Coaching for long-term physical capability, not short-term optics
This approach isn’t for everyone.
It’s for people who take their training, and their future health, seriously.
1. Doing Less, Better, With Purpose
We strip training back to what actually moves the needle. No filler, no wasted volume, no exercises added for novelty. Every session has intent, every movement has a reason. Progress comes from precision and consistency, not doing more for the sake of it
2. Intensity, Applied Intelligently
Training should be demanding, but never reckless. We teach when to push, when to hold back, and how to apply effort without compromising technique, recovery, or long-term health. Intensity is a tool, not a performance.
3. Strength & Resilience That Last
We build bodies that perform under load and remain capable over time. Strength, joint integrity, and resilience are developed together, so progress doesn’t come at the cost of breakdown. The goal isn’t just to get stronger, but to stay strong
4. Long-Term Capability Over Short-Term Optics
We don’t chase quick wins or visual trends. Our focus is sustainable performance, training that supports your goals now and still serves you years from today. Results earned through disciplined work, not short-lived fixes.

dr. Ian Hendy
2 x World Champion pnba Pro natural Mr Universe PhD in Biological Sciences
Dr. Ian Hendy brings over four decades of experience in high-level physique training, coaching, and long-term athlete development. A multi-time World Champion and Professional Natural Mr Universe, Ian competed internationally for more than 40 years, building his own physique through high-intensity, low-volume resistance training applied consistently over decades.
He has coached athletes across all stages of development, from dedicated non-competitive trainees to world-class champions, using the same core principles that shaped his own training: precision, progression, and disciplined application of effort rather than excess volume.
Ian is a former co-owner of Lougars Gym, a respected commercial training facility known for its serious training culture and elite standards. His coaching approach has been shaped by extensive time under the bar and a deep understanding of how training stress, recovery, and progression must be managed to support long-term performance and durability.
Alongside his competitive and coaching background, Ian holds a PhD in Biological Sciences (Marine Biology) and works in academia. This scientific foundation informs a measured, analytical approach to training decisions grounded in physiology, adaptation, and long-term sustainability, always balanced with real-world application rather than theory alone.

Pro Figure World Champion
Clare Hendy is a Professional Figure World Champion with over 30 years of coaching experience and more than two decades of international competitive experience. Throughout her career, she has developed her own physique and coached others using high-intensity resistance training methods applied with structure, discipline, and long-term intent.
She has worked with a wide range of individuals, from dedicated non-competitive trainees to elite physique athletes, applying the same core principles at every level: intelligent progression, precise execution, and effort directed toward sustainable development rather than excess volume or short-term outcomes.
As a former co-owner of Lougars Gym, Clare played a central role in building and sustaining a training environment known for high standards, consistency, and serious intent. Her coaching is grounded in practical experience, technical execution, and a deep understanding of how high-intensity training must be adapted across different life stages, injury histories, and performance demands.
Clare’s approach prioritises intelligent load management, quality of movement, and recovery-aware programming, helping clients build physique and performance through high-intensity training that supports longevity rather than short-term optics.
